Cornell DC 37 Labor Studies Certificate Program for Women

The District Council 37 Education Fund and the Cornell University New York State School of Industrial and Labor Relations are pleased to announce the return of the Labor Studies for Women program to DC 37. This program has been revised and expanded to address the changing needs of women in the labor force. Students may now obtain 18 college credits and, upon completion, be awarded the Cornell-DC 37 Labor Studies Certificate for Women.

Classes will cover a range of subjects, such as leadership and communication, writing to empower, labor history, organizational dynamics, collective bargaining and union organizing. The program will consist of 6 courses of 3 credits each. Over a one-to-two year period, students will attend 2 classes at DC 37 headquarters and 4 classes at the Cornell University ILR campus on 34th Street in Manhattan. For the first time, students will have an opportunity to participate in classes with representatives from other unions within New York City. Members presently involved in their respective locals or interested in becoming active in union affairs are particularly encouraged to participate.

Orientation sessions are scheduled to provide information on the new program design. Please call (212) 815-1675 for additional program information and to find out when the next orientation session will take place. Click here for application
