DC 37 Education Fund
Classes and Benefits
- What
is the Tuition Refund Program?
It is a program, which provides reimbursement of tuition and registration
fees of up to $600 maximum per calendar year to eligible employees who
meet all the requirements of the program.
- How
much can I be reimbursed?
Reimbursement is up to $300 maximum per semester and up to $600 maximum
per calendar year.
- When
should I file for a refund?
At the end of the semester, please send us a completed application form
along with a grade report, bursar's receipt, and if applicable, a
financial aid statement. We must have this no later than 120 days after
the last day of class.
- Because
of a computer foul-up, I have not yet received my grades and the deadline
date is almost here. What should I do?
Send in all the documents that you have, with a note explaining the reason
for the delay. Be sure to send us the missing documents as soon as you
receive them.
- Can I
be reimbursed if I go to a technical, business or secretarial school, or
attend a class given by a professional association or take a course via
the Internet?
Yes. You can take non-college credit, career or job-related courses, in a
college or university, licensed or registered business, technical,
secretarial, trade school, given by a professional association or via the
Internet.
- I just
registered for a short-term course of less than one week. Can I be
reimbursed for my tuition fees?
Yes.
Eligible employees who take career or job-related courses can now be reimbursed
for short-term courses. Employees must provide evidence of successful
completion and receipt of payment.
- Do I
have to pass the course to be reimbursed?
Yes. If you fail, withdraw, or receive an incomplete, you will not be
reimbursed for that course. If you take a course for credit, you must
receive a grade of C or better and, for non-credit courses, a successful
letter of completion or certificate is required in order to be eligible
for reimbursement.
- Are
there any other sources of financial aid?
Yes. The main sources are state (TAP), federal (PELL), and aid for
part-time (APTS). If you take six credits or more, you can contact the
financial aid officer in your school.
- Must I
apply for these other sources of aid if I want to be reimbursed?
Yes. We require proof of application for other financial aid before we can
reimburse. The amount that you will be reimbursed is the difference
between the tuition and registration fees that you paid and the amount of
aid that you received, up to a maximum of $300 per semester.
- My
child is attending college. Can I be reimbursed for his/her tuition fees?
No. The benefit applies only to the covered member. Dependents, children
and spouses are not eligible for education benefits.
- I am
taking graduate courses. Can I be reimbursed for them?
Yes. The Fund provides reimbursement for undergraduate, graduate and
post-graduate courses.
- Can I
be reimbursed if I take life experience credits, independent study, and
dissertation/thesis credits?
The Education benefit does not cover these types of credits.
- I
attended school in the fall and spring semesters and was reimbursed for
these courses. Can I be reimbursed for the summer semester also?
Yes. You can be reimbursed up to $600 maximum per calendar year.
- Can I
be reimbursed for books, lab, application or professional examination
fees?
No. Reimbursement is provided only for tuition and/or consolidated or
registration fees.
- I
filled out an application form last semester. Should I fill out another
one for this semester?
Yes.
You must complete a separate application form for each semester that you
apply for reimbursement.
- I am
taking an educational leave of absence. Can I be reimbursed while I'm on
leave of absence?

covered by Fund training agreements. (Some part-timers are also eligible).
Call the Fund if you're not sure if you are in a covered title.
- I'm
taking High School Equivalency courses. Can I be reimbursed?
No.
The Fund provides High School Equivalency and other basic skills courses
FREE to eligible employees.
- I want
to attend an educational conference related to my job. Will I receive
reimbursement?
No. The Education Fund only reimburses for enrollments made for courses
taken, and does not reimburse for conference fees.
